a difference with the children of the Democratic
Republic of the Congo, who are at the heart of
an epic tragedy. One in five children die before
their fifth birthday. Every year more children die
in the Democratic Republic of the Congo than in
China - a country with over twenty times the
population.
Most of the deaths are due to easily treatable
and preventable diseases. Yet at only $15 per
person per year, the Democratic Republic of the
Congo has the lowest per capita spending on
health care of any country in the world.
