Planet Medical Services, Inc. is headed by Dr. Nsekenene Kolongo, a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dr. Kolongo is medical director at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail in Portsmouth, Virginia, a board certified internist and also trains medical students and physician's assistants for Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS).
Dr. Kolongo passed his medical exams in 1992 and completed an extra two-year externship under established U.S. doctors. He started his residency in 1995 at Baltimore, completed in 1999 and started working at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail in 2002. In 2005 he passed the exam for certification in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine given in Richmond, Virginia.
While a resident at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, Dr. Kolongo was exposed to a panoply of advanced medical technology and the idea crept into his mind that he should attempt to offer humanitarian relief to people in his homeland. Last year, Dr. Kolongo launched Planet Medical Services Inc., a non-profit corporation aimed at providing free medical care to impoverished areas worldwide.
Twice within the year, Dr. Kolongo returns to his native Democratic Republic of the Congo to offer free exams and dispense medicines for such chronic care needs as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., also he dispenses ibuprofen, Tylenol, and vitamins.
